Three years ago we opened River Bookshop. We did that because almost all great small towns have an independent bookshop, and we knew Amherstburg needed one. Our vision was to be a "third place" that educates, inspires, engages, and entertains. It has been a really amazing journey—except of course for that pandemic thing.
We wouldn’t be succeeding without our many supporters: the local authors that want to show you their incredible talent; the important community organizations like the Amherstburg Freedom Museum, Gibson Gallery, and Park House that we have teamed up with to champion their purpose; and of course our many, many readers.
And now, on Saturday, August 12, River Bookshop is turning 3! To celebrate, we're launching our newly redesigned website, riverbookshop.com. It's easier than ever to discover new books, place online orders, see what our staff is reading, and find info on our events.
We'll have free Birthday cookies, promo codes for our new site, in-store raffle prizes, book-ish decorations, and 13% off all books and puzzles in store. All day, 10AM-8PM! Here's a sneak peak at our cookies, already in progress:
We will also be joined by Kara Kaufmann at 2pm! Kara is a local musician specializing in children’s music. Her Dino Lullabies and Dino Ditties each feature five dinosaurs with their own stories of childhood wonder, resilience and growth, and include plenty of facts about these extinct reptiles. Kara will be performing a selection of these songs along with other well-known children’s songs. Bring your littles for some musical fun.
