Celebrating Jane Jacobs & Her Contribution to Healthier Communities

Celebrating Jane Jacobs & Her Contribution to Healthier Communities

Apr 18, 2023

The late Jane Jacobs is consistently ranked as one of the most influential urbanists of all time. And her book The Death and Life of Great American Cities is consistently ranked at the top of best urban planning books. The New York Times described her book as “the single most important work in the history of town planning.” To this day I refer back to her books and other urban authors when I am trying to figure out what the best direction is for our smaller communities.

Jacobs passed in 2006 but she has not been forgotten, due to the many ways she positively changed communities. She was born on May 4th, so every year in May, communities around the world celebrate her legacy by holding free Jane’s Walks: community-lead conversations to discover unseen aspects of our communities, using walking as a way to connect.
